I read this book a month or so ago, but liked it and thought it would be one you would all enjoy. It reminds me a little of "The Hunger Games". It isn't quite as gripping, but still fun. The main character is a 17 year-old girl and the government controls everything, your occupation, who you marry, even when you die. The story is about her and dealing with being matched. I won't tell you much more, just give it a try. I think you will like it. It is also part of a series, but I think the next book won't be published until November of this year.
So the book is "Matched" by Allie Condie.
And does anyone have any great suggestions? I feel like I am dying for a great book, but haven't found one in a while.

I can't think of a good book to recommend. I've been struggling as well. I just finished Drowning Ruth and loved it so thanks for the review on it. I will see if I can think of something for you.
I started reading "Matched" yesterday and am almost done, so I'll post another comment when I'm finished. I have a few friends that read "The Book Thief" and really liked it, so that's what is on my list next. If you haven't already read it, it might be a good one to try.
I liked this book also. I do think it's interesting that there are all of these young adult books out there about the government controlling everything (Uglies, Hunger Games, Matched). Is it because that's what teenagers think? That their parents want to control every little aspect of their life? Must be, right? Anyway, I agree with Shannan that it wasn't as gripping as Hunger Games, but I'm still interested in reading the rest of the books once they're published. It was a fast and easy read and was enjoyable.
